From the depths of the French underworld, Blut Aus Nord returns with the second installment of their Lovecraftian black metal horror cycle: Disharmonium: Nahab. Building on the hallucinogenic chaos of 2022’s Undreamable Abysses, this 2023 follow-up dives deeper into a realm where reality collapses, and music becomes a breathing, writhing entity of its own. Released via the ever-reliable Debemur Morti Productions, Nahab is not for the faint-hearted — it’s for those who want to be devoured by sound.
As always, Vindsval and crew construct a sonic universe that feels more like a fevered dream than a traditional record. Nahab doesn’t operate in songs or structures. Instead, it flows — like a dark tide of smoke and psychic corrosion. Guitars churn and ripple like shadow tentacles. Vocals are buried, howled, and fractured — like incantations screamed across dimensions. The mix is rich with strange harmonies, dense layering, and twisted melodies that feel as much influenced by John Carpenter nightmares as they are by black metal tradition.
Compared to its predecessor, Nahab is even more malevolent. There’s a stronger rhythmic undercurrent, with lurching grooves and slower, doom-like moments that make the faster tremolo chaos even more dizzying. This isn’t about traditional heaviness — it’s about atmosphere, immersion, and obliteration. It’s like being swallowed by a sentient fog, drifting through haunted dimensions, with Maciej Kamuda’s cover art perfectly embodying the album’s dark vision.
This vinyl edition is gorgeously packaged — featuring a gatefold jacket, Lovecraft quotes (“The darkness always teemed with unexplained sound…”), and a single-sided A2 poster that will look right at home next to your altar or bookshelf of forbidden tomes. Whether you’re a long-time Blut Aus Nord devotee or just stepping into their discordant world, Disharmonium: Nahab is one of the most haunting, immersive black metal experiences of the decade.
