Back in 2016, Sigfrid, mastermind of Kellersynth and the creator of Tänzelcore, had a vision: What if dungeon synth, black metal aesthetics, Game Boy hardware, and DIY techno all smashed together in a glorious freakshow of lo-fi beauty? The result was Bergënot, a project that gives zero fucks about genre boundaries and full commitment to vibe.
This self-titled album, now reissued on cassette in 2024 by Moos und Efeu Produktionen, is the first true document of Tänzelcore — a genre as ridiculous as it is sincere. Across glitchy loops, blown-out beats, and chiptune synth lines, Bergënot builds something that feels simultaneously ancient and futuristic. There are no vocals, no riffs, no breakdowns — just a hypnotic pulse that shifts between forest rituals and warehouse meltdowns, channeling everything from early Autechre and Wumpscut to 8-bit black metal fever dreams.
The whole thing is rough, raw, and proudly DIY. The sound design is intentionally warped — like it’s coming out of blown speakers in a haunted thrift shop. But that’s exactly what gives it heart. Every synth loop, every rhythmic glitch, every detuned melody feels like part of a coded summoning ritual. This is outsider music for true weirdos — punk in spirit, experimental in execution, and absolutely essential for anyone into the darker corners of electronic music, dungeon synth, or metal-adjacent noise.
